Waymo One opened to the public in Phoenix in 2018 with safety drivers aboard, and removed them for public rides in October 2020. Waymo did not publish an annual ride count until 2023, which is where this curve starts. Every point here is a figure Waymo stated itself: over 700,000 fully autonomous trips in 2023, over 4 million in 2024, and 15 million in 2025. That is roughly twentyfold in two years, and it reconciles with the lifetime totals published alongside it, since 5 million lifetime rides at the end of 2024 plus 15 million during 2025 gives the 20 million lifetime Waymo reported at the end of 2025. Waymo’s own most recent weekly figure, stated in February 2026, is more than 400,000 rides a week across six major US metropolitan areas. On 1 September 2026 Waymo put the service at 14 cities, with co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana targeting 1 million rides a week by year end. The 2026 figure is deliberately absent: the year is not over, and annualising a weekly run rate would be a forecast, not a count. Only Waymo appears here, because only Waymo reports this way. Cruise exited after a 2023 safety incident, and Baidu Apollo Go, Pony.ai and WeRide run at real scale in China without disclosing comparable annual totals.
